Google Webmaster Tool (GWT) provides intelligence for bloggers, Internet marketers and content promoters so that they can use this information in crafting an intelligent SEO campaign.

Therefore, it is a goldmine for those who want to promote their blog and generate traffic towards their sites. While some people may feel that using Google Analytics eliminates the need for GWT, the truth is that you need both.

We know that, almost every blogger uses this most popular tool for webmaster by Google. But, there are a lot of people who don’t take it seriously and they don’t use it effectively in order to increase their blog traffic.

Mostly, they use it to submit their blog sitemap and view their blog rankings. It is one of the common SEO mistakes that bloggers usually commit.

You can use Google Webmaster and Analytics tools to improve Search Engine traffic as well as to optimize your social media campaigns. They provide great insights about the overall traffic to your blog or site.

Below are the 5 ways to improve search engine traffic for your blog with the help of Google Webmaster Tools :-

#1.Making Use of the Search Queries Section

The Search Queries section displays current and average keyword rankings, click-through rates (CTR) for each keyword, and organic search impressions. As you look for trends, toggle “With Change” to view how your SEO campaign is doing over time.

Your job at this point is to analyze search query movement to determine the keywords that offer opportunity for improvement (i.e. those that do not rank on the first page of Google, but maybe on the second page). You can download the list of the keywords in .CSV format or directly to your Google Drive.

#2. Keyword Insights

As you optimize for specific keywords, usually including niche or targeted keywords relating to your blog, website, product or service, you can view search queries by individual keyword to reveal which pages on your site rank highest for that keyword and how any of the keywords are ranking in Google SERP’s.

Click a keyword from the Search Queries table and use this information to know which pages Google views as most relevant for your site for each keyword. Which keywords are for your most visited pages? Use them in new link building campaigns.

#3. Traffic Patterns

While average position for top-search queries is definitely a way to get traffic, GWT also offers the average position for each/individual pages on your blog posts, allowing you to identify various valuable points of data, including: CTR for each page, best and worst ranking content, as well as content with lower ranking despite great CTR.

To get better CTR, adjust the meta description tag (the one on your high-ranking content) and focus on link building for poorly-ranking high-CTR content. This will boost its average position in search rankings.

#4. Authorship Statistics

Google Authorship allows GWT to provide you with data that goes beyond your blog. In the Labs section, view Author Stats and see the search statistics for external posts (you being the verified author). You will get to know which of your articles is most viewed, including their position in search engine rankings and CTR.

This is a great way to generate social traffic. For instance, if you wrote an outstanding post for Entrepreneur about money saving tips, related series of articles on your site will generate traffic as well.

#5. Site Speed Metrics

I am sure you have already been using Site Speed analysing tools, like : Tools.Pingdom.com & Gtmatrix.com in order to check and analyse the loading time of your blog site.

Apart from providing better user experience, the common reason to maintain a better loading time is that website speed is increasingly becoming a critical element in Google’s ranking algorithm under Google Panda and Penguin Updates.

In fact, some evidence exists to prove that Google’s Hummingbird algorithm prioritized site speed further, particularly when accessed via a mobile device. This is a strong indication of the future direction that Google will take regarding the importance of site speed.

Google Webmaster Tools uses search query, authorship data, keyword analysis, and site speed metric to provide you with detailed data for maximizing SEO campaign. Most importantly it tells you exactly where your website stands and where it is heading to.
